The Nautical Archaeology Society, a registered charity, is seeking a replacement Treasurer. This position sits on the Management and Executive Committees as a charity Trustee and works closely with the CEO, Chair, and Secretary.
Our treasurer is a key member of our trustee team and an essential post for our charitable status. They will support our CEO with the effective and efficient running of the Society and provide the Executive and Management committees with clear financial advice and analysis to enable effective decision making. We are a membership society devoted to the protection of underwater and foreshore cultural heritage, with an international footprint and delivering our message through research, project activities, education and publication. Ongoing requirements are financial reporting and due diligence, with current challenges being to reduce the reliance on restricted funds (which are tied to the delivery of a specific project or task), increasing the proportion of unrestricted funds (which we can use flexibly to best effect) and seeking alternative funding sources, such as sponsorships, to deliver our strategy without negatively impacting on the workload of the core team. Note that these current challenges are the focus of a working group of which the Treasurer is a key member and contributor.
We see the potential impacts of the new treasurer as primarily being twofold; for those who are interested in underwater cultural heritage and nautical archaeology, whether underwater or on the foreshore, it is an opportunity to be involved with and support the work of an internationally recognised and highly regarded organisation and for those who are not, it is an inclusive and engaging charity organisation with a clear purpose who will value and recognise your expert support.
