Could you be Richmond Borough Mind’s Chair of Trustees?

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join our board, and have a genuine impact on the charity and our beneficiaries. We are looking for a Chair to support us through an exciting period of change and growth. Working with the Board and the Executive Team you will help build on our refreshed strategy, ensuring the charity continues to meet the mental health needs of communities within and around our Borough.

About the Organisation

Richmond Borough Mind is a well-established and vibrant independent local charity. RB Mind exists to make a difference through providing quality services for people with low to moderate and more complex mental health needs and their carers. We seek to raise awareness and change attitudes towards mental health. Last year we reached nearly 8000 people and continue our work to reach more diverse and under-served communities. We value the excellent partnerships we have with local GPs, NHS and other voluntary sector organisations, and work closely with the Mind federated network.

Selection criteria

We are looking for a leader who is able to demonstrate a lot of the below knowledge, experience, skills and attributes:

• Experience as a trustee either in a voluntary sector organisation or experience as a leader within the voluntary sector and/or health and social care sector/or other relevant organisation.
• Understanding of mental health issues, through lived experience or professionally
• Understanding of the role that societal inequalities can play in mental health and a commitment to challenging these inequalities.
• Understanding of financial issues and legislation applicable to charities.
• Able to provide strategic leadership and guidance to the CEO and Board
• Able to work effectively as a member of a team
• Able to run meetings effectively
• Willing to motivate fellow board members and take time to get to know them
• Strategic vision combined with good, independent judgement and a preparedness to make unpopular recommendations to the Board
• Tactful and diplomatic, and has powers of persuasion
• Reflexive and self-aware
• Commitment and ability to attend all meetings in person (usually in Hampton Road office in Twickenham)
