The objective of Age UK Oxfordshire is to promote the welfare of older people in and around Oxfordshire. Our ambition to make later life as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible, and to support unpaid carers in their role.

Would you like to become the Treasurer of a local major independent charity supporting older people and carers?

What will you be doing?

The Treasurer fulfils a leading role in addressing the challenges of the charity.

The role is not operational, but has a number of specific responsibilities:

  • Trustees have ultimate responsibility for governing the charity and deciding how it is run. Same role as a Director of a company. Work collectively as part of both AUKO and AfCO (Action for Carers Oxfordshire, our sister charity) Boards. Bring skills and experience. Set the strategy, support the management team, hold them to account.

What are we looking for?

  • The honorary treasurer works in close cooperation with, and provides support and advice to, the Director of Finance. An accountancy qualification is NOT essential, but operational financial experience is. Mentoring and training will be provided. Until February 2023 will be ‘Treasurer in waiting’ with the current Treasurer providing mentoring support. An experienced Director of Finance is part of the Executive Team.

What difference will you make?

The role of Treasurer offers the opportunity to have a real impact on the future shape of ageing in Oxfordshire and the support available for unpaid carers, leading thinking to develop our services, to innovate and to make Oxfordshire a more age friendly county.

Looking to the future, we want to strengthen our reach, partner networks and ultimately to enable more people from our communities to access our services and support. As we embark on our new strategy for 2022-2025 and our current Treasurer, comes to the end of his term in February 2023, we are looking to appoint a new Treasurer at great time of excitement and challenge.
