Non-Executive Member of Chapter

Employer
Hereford Cathedral
Location
Herefordshire (GB)
Salary
Unremunerated
Closing date
17 Jul 2022

Hereford Cathedral is seeking experienced and enthusiastic candidates to join its Chapter – the managing board of the cathedral.

The positions are as Lay Members of Chapter, with a role similar to corporate non-executive directors, and are responsible for oversight of the cathedral’s development and operations, supporting clergy and staff in the mission of the cathedral, and in implementing the aims of the cathedral’s 2020 Vision five-year development strategy. They therefore have exciting roles at the centre of a cathedral community caring not only for the cathedral building itself and the spiritual life of the city and diocese, but which also manages the largest venue and tourist attraction in the region, with a world-class choir and musical tradition.  It is also the home of the unique Mappa Mundi, the largest chained library in the world, and a host of other artefacts.

The cathedral is seeking candidates from a broad range of backgrounds, in particular finance and accounting. The role has a three-year commitment, of approximately 15 hours per month, involving both daytime and evening activities.

The position is unremunerated, but Chapter members are appointed lay canons of the cathedral, a robed position with a stall in the quire. As such, candidates are required to be a baptised, confirmed and actual communicant Anglican or a member of another Church in communion with the Church of England.

Please apply with a CV and covering letter outlining your qualifications to become a member of Chapter to Canon Duncan Jones, 5 College Cloisters, Cathedral Close, Hereford HR1 2NG or by email to duncan.jones@herefordcathedral.org. An Equal Opportunities monitoring form will be made available to candidates.
