The Caldecott Foundation provides specialist residential care, fostering families and education for disadvantaged, vulnerable and traumatised young people in the UK.

We are seeking a Trustee with finance expertise to join the Board with the possibility of stepping into the role of Treasurer in the future.

 

What will you be doing?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of Trustees and staff helping some of the most vulnerable children in our society to build a future and reach their potential by supporting the board with your financial knowledge and expertise.

In relation to finance

  • Statutory Financial Reporting.
  • Board level liaison with external auditors on specific issues in the auditing process and related matters.
  • Guide and advise fellow trustees to formally approve the annual report and audited accounts.
  • Explain technicalities of accounts in plain language which is fully understood by the trustees.

In relation to Governance

  • Ensure proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are controlled, invested and economically spent in line with governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plans and overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process.
  • Provide oversight of the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost management and investment policies.

 

What are we looking for?

Essential

  • Financial qualifications and experience within a charity, not for profit or business.
  • Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
  • Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement.
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Understanding and commitment to the organisation’s cause and objectives.
  • Willing to act as an ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies.
  • A team-oriented approach to problem solving and management.

Desirable

  • Qualified accountant.
  • Knowledge of charity SORP and impending changes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of charity fundraising and finance practices.
  • Experience of managing investments and pension schemes.

You will be part of a Board of volunteer Trustees providing strategic oversight and helping to shape the future direction of the organisation. Through your work with Trustees and Managers you will help the organisation achieve greater financial sustainability so that we can support more children and achieve even better outcomes.

 

Time commitment

Board meetings are held five times a year. The finance committee meets three times a year. The board currently meet remotely.
