Citizens Advice Brighton & Hove is seeking a number of new trustees and a treasurer. This is an exciting
opportunity to take on a governance role at a high profile charitable organisation. We are particularly
looking for those with skills in marketing, social media and communications as well as legal experience,
policy development and fundraising to join the board. We are also hoping to welcome applicants with little
or no board experience, who would like to learn more about charity governance.
We are a local independent advice charity and are part of the Citizens Advice network. Our goal is to help
everyone find a way forward, whatever problem they face – we provide free, confidential and impartial
advice and we campaign on the issues affecting people’s lives. The cost of living crisis means that now is a
crucial time for us to grow our capacity to give help and advice, and campaign on behalf of service users.
You can be part of guiding that process, making a genuine impact on the lives of people in your community.
As a trustee or treasurer you will support the board to develop and maintain its governance. It is the board’s
role to provide good, strong leadership and enable the organisation to provide effective services to clients.
You will be involved in directing the organisation towards its charitable objectives, be accountable for the
charity and its affairs, actively contribute to setting policy and strategic direction, monitor performance and
hold the management accountable for progress towards those goals. The treasurer will also have a specific
focus on the financial management of the organisation.
The ideal candidate will understand the problems that people in our communities are currently facing, and
be committed to the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice service. They will have the commitment and
availability to attend trustee board meetings, and have the communication skills to participate actively in
discussion. They should have the willingness to learn and to develop, the ability to think creatively and
strategically, and to work effectively as a member of a team.
Citizens Advice Brighton and Hove is here for everyone, and we understand that diversity in our workforce is
the best way of understanding the varying needs of the city around us, so we welcome and encourage
applications from all communities.
