‘There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing

as simply messing about in boats.’

Could you bring your finance skills to the board of a charity passionate about the serious business of developing and future-proofing a wonderful museum on the river?

The River & Rowing Museum (RRM) is one of the country’s leading independent museums with a reputation for high-quality exhibitions and an excellent learning and events programme. Based in Henley on Thames in Oxfordshire, the Museum was opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 1998. Housed in an award-winning David Chipperfield designed building on the banks of the River Thames, the Museum’s galleries tell the interweaving story of the River Thames, the art it inspires, the international sport of rowing, and the town of Henley.

The last few years have been challenging and have exposed the need for us to implement a new and robust business model. We also need to invest significantly in our infrastructure, so we are using this opportunity to both overhaul our financial footing and our assets.

We are now looking for a skilled Treasurer/Finance Trustee who wants to play his or her important part in this challenge.

Treasurer/Finance Trustee

Eighteen months ago the Board of Trustees embarked on a Project Sustainable Future plan to ensure the sustainability of the business, moving towards a more volunteer-dependent model, reducing salary costs and turning parts of our real estate into assets that can generate income. The work will commence this year and together with planned revenue from rent, we expect to generate a sustainable income per annum.

We are looking for someone who can help to drive strategic change and who can be a strong ambassador for us both locally and nationally as we continue to develop and implement our plans.  We are looking for someone to join us on this exciting journey that will transform forever this wonderful museum and ensure the continued important role that it plays in our community.

It is desirable but not necessary to be a qualified accountant to fulfil this role and we would welcome someone with the equivalent professional experience.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in helping to fulfil the River and Rowing Museum’s goal to overhaul the museum’s business model and its assets. We are looking for a Treasurer/Finance Trustee to provide expertise to help lead, influence and steer critical elements of our work and who shares our ambition to ensure a solid future for the museum for generations of visitors for years to come.

If you want to play a leading part in shaping in the future of the River and Rowing Museum, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The River and Rowing Museum is committed to equality and strongly values diversity.

We want you to have every opportunity to demonstrate your skills, ability and potential; please contact us if you require any assistance or adjustment so that we can help with making the application process work for you.

The closing date for applications is 19 September 2022.
