Being a trustee at Winchester Go LD gives you the opportunity to contribute your experience and insight to the governance of the charity, enabling the organisation to support members to live life to the full. Winchester Go LD is proud to be a leading local organisation who enable people with learning disabilities (our members) to live life to the full with the choices and independence that they want. We are a growing charity, expanding our membership and responding to an increase in the need for our help from people with learning disabilities and their families in Winchester. We are looking for a new Treasurer to join our team, could this be you?
Trustees set the overall vision, strategy and annual budget of the charity, and our Treasurer also has specific responsibilities around financial management of the charity. They hold oversight of the charities finances and procedures, chair the finance subcommittee, report to the board of trustees and ensure compliance with external reporting requirements. It is a rewarding and varied role, but the responsibilities mean you will need to be able to contribute enough time to help Winchester GoLD succeed. Trustees serve 3 year terms and new trustees will join an existing group of 6 trustees. The team meets either face to face or online for 2 hours on 6 evenings a year, and the finance subcommittee meets 4 times a year for 2 hours. Preparation for meetings, and other duties of the treasurer’s role, mean that we think our Treasurer role requires a couple of hours per week, varying across the year. Many trustees also participate in some of the regular member activities and join fundraising events through the year.
We are looking for a financial professional who has good communication and organisational skills, and is able to communicate financial information to people without a financial background. All of our trustees have an interest in the wider Winchester community, they have empathy for people with learning disabilities and they want to contribute their energy and ideas towards this fast growing and ambitious local charity.
This is a great role to develop or use your skills in charity finance, and you will have access to training. Our existing Treasurer is stepping down after a number of years service, but will still be on the board as a trustee without a specific portfolio and also able to provide support to our new Treasurer.
