We're urgently looking for a volunteer who can help us to record, manage and account our finances at Cocoon Kids - Creative Counselling and Play Therapy CIC.

We need help in:

  • Preparation of accounts
  • Reconciliation of finance accounts
  • Processing invoices & expense forms
  • Following and using Accounts systems (Brightpay, Zoho etc.)
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Processing sales orders / working with sales / purchase ledger (future expansion)
  • Managing our cash flow including measures to increase our short term financial resilience
  • Financial forecasting / modelling 
  • Researching relevant support packages related to Covid-19/Cost of living crisis, and if / how we should access on them

We would love a volunteer who can:

  • Quickly understand our financial set up / main concerns
  • Help us get to grips with relevant options / approaches / strategies 
  • Discuss next steps
  • Follow up with any further questions or outcomes
  • Work well with our Directors and our Funding and Grant Volunteer (new role).

What are we looking for in a volunteer?

We’re looking for a volunteer who:

  • Quickly understands the needs of/challenges faced by our organisation
  • Has accurate and up to date knowledge and experience of Community Interest Company finance, as well as Charity sector finance (in preparation for our CIO conversion), SORP and other relevant frameworks
  • Has accurate and up to date knowledge of restricted / unrestricted funds, including any current Tax deductions for work completed in Educational settings etc.
  • Is aware of / is willing to inform themself of the latest government support packages/tax deductions etc. for Covid-19/cost of living crisis
  • Experience of completing accounts and other financial management, e.g. monitoring and evaluating projects and preparing reports
  • Is self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative to meet deadlines
  • Has good, clear communication skills.

Specific skills and experience 

We expect all of our team to ideally have knowledge and experience in the following areas: 

Mental health and wellbeing challenges and its impact Living with or have experience of socio-economic deprivation and/or marginalised communities Understanding of the impact that housing insecurity may bring to a child, young person and their family’s mental health and wellbeing.  

 

Commitment 

  • Home/remote work, with option of some face to face meetings where required, or preferred
  • Contactable by phone/email/Zoom and willing to attend finance meetings, workshops and forums, where necessary
  • Ideally committing to at least a year to provide consistency to the role and establish key relationships 
  • Commitment to being involved in an accounting project from start to finish preferred
  • NB. We’re open to short term offers/sharing this role with another volunteer.
