The Society for Research into Higher Education is seeking is seeking an Honorary Treasurer to join the SRHE Board of Trustees. This opportunity arises consequent on the departure of the current Treasurer at the end of 2022. The aim is to have the new Honorary Treasurer appointed in November 2022 in order to allow for a period of handover.

 

SRHE Honorary Treasurer Role and responsibilities

The Hon. Treasurer is responsible for the financial affairs of the Society with the day-to-day business of the Society being the responsibility of the executive team of experienced and qualified professionals. In addition to working closely with the CEO, the Hon. Treasurer has the full support of the Manager Operations and Finance and the Finance Officer, who manage the Society finances and provide the Honorary Treasurer with all the reports and advice necessary for them to have full oversight of the Society’s financial matters and be in a position to advise Trustees accordingly. The primary role of the Honorary Treasurer is to safeguard financial resources and ensure appropriate use of funds, according to agreed budgets and business plans.

 

The Honorary Treasurer has the over-riding responsibility to ensure that the financial affairs of the organisation are conducted in such a way as to comply with all legal requirements and best professional practice and to ensure that the long-term financial stability of the organisation is not compromised.

 

The Honorary Treasurer position is a co-option to the Board of Trustees.

 

Time commitment This position involves attendance and reporting at 3 Board meetings a year (2.5hrs), 3 Management & Finance sub-committee meetings (2 hours) and the provision of ad hoc advice & guidance, including advising on setting budgets and managing the investment of assets.

The post-holder should: –

 

  • Understand and appreciate the aims and objectives of the Society; Be able to explain complex financial arrangements in a way that is comprehensible to non-finance trained colleagues; Be able to work with people with diverse backgrounds and experience;
  • Have high personal standards of integrity and financial probity.
