We are a Sheffield based charity with a long history of engaging with volunteers to provide English language support to those people most excluded from mainstream provision. We particularly aim to recruit volunteer language supporters from within our learners’ communities to help foster new relationships, neighbourhood resilience and community cohesion.

This is an exciting time to get involved with SAVTE as a trustee. We are strengthening our community development approach so that our work supports communities as well as individuals. Our provision is unique, our reputation is growing locally and nationally, and we have ambitious plans for further transformation and diversification to ensure our sustainability well beyond 2022.

We are seeking to add to our Board of Trustees, to help support and develop further the great work of SAVTE. We would like to hear from anyone whose professional and / or lived experience aligns with the values and purpose of the organisation, but in particular we would love to recruit trustees who meet one or more of the following:

  • have lived experience of the issues of under-represented communities,
  • have a multilingual background,
  • have been ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners,
  • are interested in becoming a co-chair of the board of trustees,
  • have experience of managing finances, and / or
  • have experience of managing people.

This is a voluntary role, but travel and other reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Recruitment of trustees is ongoing. For more information about applying, please visit our website:

To express interest and arrange an informal conversation with the Chief Executive Officer, Stella Burton, or the current co-chairs of the board, Sylvia Ashton and Jo Reynolds, please email:
