Africa in Motion is seeking new Trustees to join our board at an exciting time in our development. We are keen to appoint talented individuals who are as passionate as we are about African/Black diaspora cinema and artistic expression, the cultural sector in the UK, and addressing urgent questions about inequality with the aim of creating a just world.

ABOUT AFRICA IN MOTION

Africa in Motion (AiM) is an annual African film festival taking place in Scotland, that delivers film screenings and complementary events. The festival caters to a varied and diverse audience from all over Scotland, the UK and further afield.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Trustee, you will be responsible for supporting the overall strategic direction of Africa in Motion. We want our Board to reflect the diverse nature of the Black diaspora, be intergenerational, and to reflect the independent spirit of the filmmaking we champion.

Role Title: Trustee

Commitment: 4 Board meetings per year plus attendance at potential strategic planning meetings and social events equivalent to a commitment of no more than 1 day per quarter. Trustees are welcome to bring additional value and expertise to the festival outside the context of the formal meetings. This will be an opportunity to gain experience and insight, grow personally and professionally, and to be part of a dynamic and committed leadership team. You’ll also have the opportunity to see some great films!

Location: Remote

Stipend: This is a voluntary-unpaid role; reimbursement of reasonable expenses will be offered where appropriate.

We currently have 5 trustees. You don’t need to have an arts background or a university degree to be a Trustee, or to have reached any particular stage in your career. We want to hear from people who bring something new, will challenge us, and who want to help us grow. We invite applications from people who are passionate about Africa in Motion’s vision, the arts/cultural sector, and those with lived* experience. We have identified these key expertise gaps:

  • Law
  • HR / Policy Making
  • Accounting/Financial governance
  • Professional filmmaking/acting/media industry experience
  • Fundraising and Sponsorship experience
  • Community building
  • Strategic planning and business management

If you don’t meet any of the above, or have expertise in a different area, we still encourage you to submit your interest, but we may prioritise other applicants to ensure a well-rounded, representative board.
