About the charity

Balance (Support) CIO is creative and innovative charity providing a range of support services to people with learning disabilities and enduring mental health needs living in the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster.

We are seeking new trustees to join our board who can build on the already considerable work the charity has undertaken to assert the independence, skills and abilities of people who are too often marginalised and forgotten by their wider communities.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking to recruit the following roles to our board of trustee’s:

  • Chair – to lead the board and its members in delivering the charity’s strategy, its operational targets, and broader developmental priorities. To support the CEO and executive leadership team in executing the strategic plan and medium-term targets to 2025.
  • Trustees – to support the Chair and other directors of the charity in shaping the charity’s future and its work with vulnerable people in southwest and west London

What you will be doing

As a trustee you will occupy a key role in shaping what the charity does and how it does it. You will work closely with all members of the board and the executive leadership team in setting our priorities, building our brand and ensuring compliance with our legal, regulatory and broader governance obligations. Your will direct and lead and organisation that employs 60 staff, works with over 400 individuals annually and has contractual relationships with a number of funding agencies.

Who you are

You will be someone who understands or can align with the challenges and opportunities that those we work with experience in their daily lives. You will be committed to an operational philosophy that puts those we support at the centre of decision making about the shape and direction of their lives. You will be able to translate a knowledge of the social care sector and the wider crisis affecting those subject to it into action that transforms how we deliver our services and the lives of those we support.

You will have skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Learning disabilities and/or mental health
  • Adult Social care
  • Human Resource management
  • Fundraising and income development
  • Strategy and business change management

What we expect from you

You will be expected to attend at least 4 board meetings a year, with an additional requirement to attend other events and activities that the charity holds to promote is activities and brand

You may also from time to time be expected to represent the charity in meetings with potential funders and supporters.

What you can expect from us

Whilst this commitment will be made on a voluntary basis the charity will meet any out of pocket expenses as well as provide access to training and support commensurate with the role.
