Role summary

GoodGym is looking for an inspiring and dedicated new Chair of Trustees to help guide the Board and executive team in its vision for the charity and ensure that GoodGym continues to encourage even more people to get fit by doing good across the UK and potentially internationally.

The Chair will lead the Board and will provide counsel and support to the leadership team, holding them to account for GoodGym’s progress and impact as a charity.

 

What are we looking for?

The incoming Chair will be a dynamic and passionate contributor with a strong track record of achieving success in senior positions. The successful candidate will have significant strategic leadership and executive management experience.

The new Chair will be experienced at chairing senior level meetings and have a strong understanding of governance, legal duties, liabilities and the responsibilities of a non-executive, and/or a charity trustee.

They will be commercially astute, and have excellent communication, networking and interpersonal skills.

The new Chair will be able to demonstrate the ability to raise the profile of an organisation too. Most importantly, they will have a passion for the work of GoodGym and be able to inspire this passion in others.

As the charity's reach and activity continues to expand, the new Chair will play an important part in increasing its impact. Therefore, the successful candidate should demonstrate a personal contribution to developing and driving a successful growth strategy of an organisation of similar size or larger than that of GoodGym.

They must have passion, energy and dedication to push our thinking forward and have the skills to get the most from our talented Board of Trustees.

The new Chair should be willing to get involved in GoodGym and commit the time to the role, and be able to engage with and encourage an active Board.

Candidates should bring a values-led approach and a passion to be involved in GoodGym’s mission to encourage people to get fit by doing good in their area.

 

Time commitment

6 board meetings and one away day per year. Meetings are currently held from 5-7pm in central London. In addition to Board meetings, the Chair will also be expected to provide support and advice to the other Trustees and executive team taking 4 to 8 hours per month of their time. This role is unremunerated, but reasonable, pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed. The appointment is for a three year term initially, which can be renewed once at the discretion of the Board.
