We are looking for trustees, and ideally a Treasurer, for our charity: City of Sanctuary Sheffield. City of Sanctuary Sheffield (COSS) is an independent charity working in solidarity with people seeking sanctuary in Sheffield. Sheffield was the first city of Sanctuary in the UK, and has pioneered a network that now has hundreds of local councils, schools, universities, libraries, theatres and more that have been awarded Sanctuary status.

As a trustee, you will play a key role in guiding and supporting our organization as we work towards creating a city that is safe and welcoming for people seeking sanctuary. It's a really rewarding role, working alongside a great team of trustees, staff and volunteers for a really good cause. It wouldn't take up lots of time as we only have 8 board meetings a year.

The Role of the Treasurer

The treasurer helps trustees carry out their financial responsibilities by:

• presenting financial reports to the board in a format that helps the board understand the charity’s financial position

• advising the board on how to carry out its financial responsibilities

overseeing the financial affairs of the charity to ensure resources are being used correctly

• liaising with professional advisors e.g. auditors

advising and supporting the Charity's Finance officer and Director in their preparation of the Management and Annual Accounts.
