Treasurer of the Board of Trustees

Reports to: Chairman of the Board

Responsible for: Leading the Trustees in the oversight of the Charity’s Financial Management

 

Main Purpose of the job:

The treasurer will lead the trustees in the oversight of Jerry Green Dog Rescue’s strategic financial management. While all trustees are collectively responsible for the management of the charity’s resources, the treasurer will act as the lead trustee in articulating the financial governance of the organisation and will play an active role in ensuring that all trustees are fully able to understand the charity’s financial arrangements and contribute to financial discussion and decisions.

Main duties and responsibilities

In addition to those duties and responsibilities performed by all trustees, the treasurer is generally considered to lead on: • overseeing budgets, accounts, management accounts and financial statements to the board of trustees after discussion with the Finance Manager and CEO, where applicable; • ensuring that proper accounts and records are kept, ensuring financial resources are expended and invested in line with charity policy, good governance, legal and regulatory requirements, ; • being instrumental in the development and implementation of financial, reserves and investment policies in support of the Finance Manager; • liaising, where applicable, with the CEO, Finance Manager or other appropriate senior member of staff responsible for the financial activities of the organisation including pre yearly accounts meeting and sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets; • liaising with the charity’s auditors, where appropriate, along with the Finance Manager • monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity after liaising with the Charity’s auditors • creating, in liaison with the CEO and Finance Manager, sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets; TT JD 2023 • advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan;  liaising with the charity Secretary, CEO or Finance Manager, where applicable, to ensure that the charity’s annual accounts are compliant with the current Charities SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice); • where the charity has an internal audit function, the treasurer will oversee the audit with the Finance Manager and any committee of the board of trustees; • acting as a counter-signatory on charity documents (including any electronic transactions) and any applications for funds; • contributing to the Income Generation strategy of the organisation and helping to ensure that income targets are aligned to the overall purpose of the charity and its agreed strategy; and • providing leadership and support to the CEO and Finance Manager, where appropriate.

Person specification

The following characteristics, knowledge and experiences in addition to those required by all trustees, are essential for the role of treasurer:

Essential  Qualified accountant with demonstrated commercial awareness and knowledge.  Knowledge of charity SORP and impending changes.  General Income investment support  Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.  Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement.  Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, with a willingness to complete training  Willingness to attend Board and finance meetings in support of both the Trustees and the Senior Management team, as needed

Desirable  Demonstrated knowledge and experience of charity fundraising and finance practices.  Dedicated to the organisation’s cause and objectives and willing to act as the charity’s ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies.  A team-oriented approach to problem solving and to management.

Time commitment and location

 The Board meets at least 4/5 times a year  Board meetings are held at the organisation’s premises: Jerry Green Dog Rescue, North Lincolnshire Centre, Broughton, Brigg, Nth Lincs, DN20 0BJ
