The People’s Classroom are looking for a trustee to join the Board of Trustees.

The People’s Classroom was established in 2017 through UCL as a student-led initiative to deliver university-led workshops within state-funded schools in London. The programme is in the process of establishing as an independent charity which will accompany significant organisational growth over the next year as we scale up to expand our reach across the city of London.

We provide targeted academic support for Maths GCSE students from marginalised backgrounds by running small-scale tuition sessions which cover key topics students need to catch up on. The programme also provides students with the opportunity to co-produce an EdTech resource with an academic expert, to present academic content in an engaging and accessible format.

Why should you apply

Educational inequality remains a pressing and persistent social issue, that has only worsened in recent years. Students from marginalised backgrounds are less likely to succeed academically due to a number of factors, which includes a lack of access to resources when compared to their more advantaged peers.

We are committed to tackling this by working in partnership with students, parents, and schools to design specialised programmes that empower student voices and provide much-needed support.

We are currently recruiting a trustee with a finance background to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional to join our passionate team while playing a vital role in the growth of a new and exciting organisation that has the potential to make a meaningful difference. We are a small but growing team who are motivated by a strong commitment to tackling social injustice in education and working in partnership with our community.

This role is suited to someone with a finance background who shares our values and would like to use their professional skillset in a pro-social context to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of young people.

You will be contributing to the organisational management while advising on the financial issues of the charity and ensuring that our programme activity aligns with key strategic goals.
