Thrive Education Partnership (TEP) is a Multi-Academy Trust that is rapidly expanding, with five special needs academies, an autism-specific primary satellite provision, and an SEMH/AS resource base in a large secondary mainstream school. With around 500 staff and approximately 800 pupils between 2 and 19 years old, TEP is now seeking to appoint Trustees. Ideally, candidates with Finance, Estates Management and Health & Safety experience would complement the existing governance arrangements in place.
Even if you have no prior experience in this area, TEP can provide you with a full induction and training within the governance model of the Trust. This will help you gain knowledge and understanding of Thrive and the wider context in which it operates.
The Governance Handbook states that all trust boards have three core functions, which include:
- Ensuring clarity of the vision, ethos, and strategic direction Holding the Executive Leaders to account for the educational performance of the school(s) and its pupils and the effective and efficient performance management of staff Overseeing the financial performance of the school(s) and making sure that its money is well spent
As a Trustee at Thrive, you will be expected to:
- Commit sufficient time to actively contribute to the Trust board and attend meetings Develop knowledge and understanding of the Trust board and the wider context in which it operates, as well as the needs of the young people who are educated Participate in training, such as safeguarding Sign up and adhere to the ‘Code of Conduct’ for Trustees Act within the law and with regard to statutory guidance Demonstrate commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
The ideal candidate for this role should:
- Have a confident and positive attitude Be professional and reliable Possess good verbal communication skills Be interested in the education of young people with special educational needs
Trust board meetings are held during the evening, approximately six times per academic year, each lasting around two hours. You will also need to commit time to prepare for these meetings.

Trustees are responsible for the decision-making of an academy trust, which includes all of its academies and any central staff. As the strategic leaders, it's crucial for trustees to engage with the communities and stakeholders the trust serves. While the board may delegate certain responsibilities, it remains accountable and responsible for all decisions made. Trust board decisions must prioritise the best interests of pupils and welcome diverse viewpoints.

Upon successful appointment all trustees will be asked to complete the following checks:
- An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
(This will need to include a barred list check if in regulated activity)
- A section 128 check Checks to confirm identity (including as a part of the DBS check) Checks to confirm right to work in the UK Any other checks deemed necessary where the individual has lived or worked outside the UK (guidance available)
