Digswell Arts Trust (“DAT”) is a charity supporting the visual arts, founded over 65 years ago by the pioneering educationalist Henry Morris to bring artists into the community.  Today we support artists at the start of their career by providing subsidised studios at our facilities in Welwyn Garden City and Letchworth Garden City. We also encourage our artists to work in the community, including by teaching classes, working with schools and welcoming visitors into regular open studios events.

DAT is seeking a qualified accountant to join the board as trustee with a view to becoming treasurer once our incumbent steps down from the position in a year to 18 months’ time. The incumbent will be remaining as a trustee so the handover process will be gradual and fully supported. The board consists of 8 people at present, drawn from a variety of artistic and professional backgrounds. We also have a part time administrator who assists with the practical management of DAT, including liaison with our artists.

The board meets four times annually, usually online, with occasional meetings at our studio buildings. The treasurer’s role includes managing our banking and investment facilities, preparing financial statements for board meetings and presenting at them, and preparing our annual report and accounts in conjunction with our external examiner. As a small company the role is not time consuming, needing no more than a few hours per month.

The role would suit somebody with an interest in the visual arts but no prior experience of charities or arts organisations is needed.
