Who we are.
St John’s College is a happy, inspiring space based in the diverse city of Brighton, where students thrive and learn. We offer an inclusive FE learning environment for young autistic people who require the support and care that many mainstream educational settings cannot provide.
We provide a broad and stimulating curriculum with individual programs for each learner to unleash their potential. Our learners come from all over the country to join our college and are supported by a transdisciplinary team who specialise in supporting our learners to achieve individual goals.
We are excited to be merging with Ambitious about Autism in September, to work together for better outcomes for autistic children and young people.
Ambitious about Autism is the national charity standing with Autistic people, operating several schools and specialist colleges, employment programmes, consultancy, and leading national campaigns. Together, we can ensure better outcomes for autistic people.
Who we are looking for.
We are looking for a new Chair of the Governing Body of St. John’s College t lead our governing body and work closely with our inspirational Principal, Karen Grist. You will guide our aims and priorities, ensure the health and safety of our young people and staff and ensure high levels of quality to enable autistic people to be prepared for adult life.
Experience in chairing meetings or sub-committees is ideal, as a passion for governance and a good knowledge of education will be key success to high-quality education. We are currently rated as “Good” and are keen to continually improve our provision.
Our new Chair will be strategic and visible amongst our staff; excited to represent us both internally and externally. We expect time commitment for this role to be 1-2 days per month, including preparation and attendance at board meetings and various events, and becoming a member of Ambitious about Autism’s Education Committee.
