A part time volunteer treasurer is required to look after the finances of our two local churches in the parish of St John & St Luke Clay Hill, Enfield, Middlesex when the present treasurer retires in April 2024.

The treasurer does not have to be a churchgoer or have formal qualifications although an understanding of bookkeeping principles is needed.  Basic computer skills are required including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets and emailing.  The treasurer would also be expected to learn to use the parish’s Data Developments Finance Coordinator accounting system either the stand-alone or on-line versions.

You will be given full training in the parish treasurer role and Finance Coordinator and a good handover from the current treasurer.  You will become an ex-officio member and Trustee of the Parochial Church Council (PCC) which is a registered charity and report to the PCC at their meetings currently held six times a year.

The key responsibilities are as follows.

  • Record all financial transactions carried out on behalf of the PCC and ensure they are properly authorised and compliant with Charities Commission, the Church of England and the PCC. Financial Policies and Procedures.  (Banking is done by the Churchwardens.)
  • Draft an annual budget to assist the PCC to plan how it will fulfil its objectives for the coming year.
  • Monitor the PCC’s finances throughout the year, prepare a report for each PCC meeting and advise the PCC on all financial matters.
  • Submit the annual accounts to our independent examiner for checking.
  • Present the examined annual accounts to the PCC and the Annual Parochial Church Meeting.  Send copies to the Charities Commission and Diocese and complete the national financial information return.
