About Ambient

Ambient Support is a registered UK charity with nearly 30 years’ experience in providing care and support services for older people, people with a mental health need and people with a learning disability.

Our aim is to ensure we deliver the highest quality of service for our beneficiaries, be a provider of choice to our sector partners and deliver services that are good value for those who purchase or commission our services.

What will you be doing?

The Trustee will be a general member of the Board but will have skills and experience specifically around Marketing, Communications and Public Relations. This Trustee will work closely with colleagues on the Board, the Executive Team and in particular the Director of Business Development & Communications to support Ambient in their communication goals and strategy.

This role can be done mainly from home, or mainly from the office.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on the Board. The Trustee will have the following:

  • A strong background in Marketing, Communications and or the Public Relations sector in a senior role including crisis comms
  • A current and relevant understanding of the dynamic digital landscape
  • Experience and understanding of social and/or health care in the public sector
  • Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as a Trustee and to act in the best interests of the organisation
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion
  • A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Enthusiasm for our vision and mission
  • Willingness to lead according to our values
  • Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

What difference will you make?

Our Trustees play a vital role in making sure that Ambient Support achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Ambient Support has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable Ambient Support to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission. Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that Trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

Commitment:

Estimate of time needed: up to five hours per month. Attending 4 Board meetings annually which are held face to face in central London and up to 4 sub-committee meetings. Please see candidate pack. Please see candidate pack for further details.
