Job Details

Oversee the financial affairs of World Heritage UK (WHUK), with the assistance of WHUK’s Business Manager, and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice:
• Attend Board Meetings (usually 4 a year) and advise the Board on matters relating to finance and risk
• Be accountable for organisational audit processes, receipts, payments and insurance
• Be responsible for maintaining the WHUK Organisational Risk and Issues Register and Business Continuity Plan.
• Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation to the Trustees, ensuring they are aware of their financial obligations and interpreting financial data where required
• Take the lead on ensuring WHUK’s financial probity and transparency
• Oversee and be accountable for the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits
• Prepare and deliver the Treasurer’s Report to the Annual General Meeting
• Chair the WHUK Risk & Resources Committee
• Line manage any WHUK staff as delegated by the Chair
• Liaise with relevant staff, committee members and/or volunteers to ensure the financial viability of the organisation by:
• Overseeing the production of an annual budget and propose its adoption at the last meeting of the previous financial year.
• Appointing and liaising with auditors/an independent examiner
• Ensuring proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place
• Maintain knowledge and experience of current and fundraising finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations.
• Act as a spokesperson for WHUK, deputising for the Chair as required including at the Board meetings or on committees
• Undertake other duties as necessary in pursuance of the adopted aims of the organisation
• Appointed by a majority vote of the WHUK Board of Trustees
• A 3-year term of office is considered standard with the option to extend into a second term. Maximum two terms (6 years). May be reappointed after an interval of at least 2 years.

World Heritage UK (WHUK) is a registered charity (CIO, 1163364) established in 2015, that works with and on behalf of all the UK’s United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage Sites, across all four home nations and in four overseas territories, supporting the sites and their managers with many years of strategic and operational World Heritage experience. WHUK receives no public funds, and relies on our members, grants and donations for income. We currently operate with a 0.6 FTE General Manager, a 0.1 FTE Business Manager and 12 volunteer Trustees (all with past or current World Heritage operations and charity management experience) and a volunteer President (one of the UK’s leading experts on World Heritage for over 40 years). WHUK is the only organisation entirely focused on World Heritage in the UK. We may be a small charity, but we are one with a significant impact.
