At Book Aid International we share the power of books and help create a more equal world. Every year we provide over one million brand-new books to thousands of communities around the world where people have few books, or no books at all.
The skills, experience and qualities our Trustees bring are vital in supporting Book Aid International in achieving its charitable objectives. We are now looking to appoint a new trustee with significant financial experience, preferably in the charity sector, or in industry, or the accounting profession, to join Book Aid International’s Board of Trustees.
There may be an opportunity to assume the Treasurer role in the short to medium term and applicants should be prepared to commit the time required for the Treasurer role, if appointed.

- Set and maintain the vision, mission and values of the Charity Determine the strategic aims, objectives and direction of the Charity Ensure the Charity complies with charity law requirements and other laws that apply to the Charity Ensure the Charity’s resources are responsibly managed Act in, and further, the Charity’s best interests
- Actively participate in all Board meetings Contribute to the effective performance of the Board Actively participate in all Finance and Audit Committee, and Risk Management meetings Actively participate in other Trustee meetings as they arise Support the executive team in managing the Charity Commit and contribute time to the Board and Management and other committees where applicable Act as an ambassador for the Charity and represent the interests of all stakeholders
- Significant financial experience in the charity sector, industry or the accounting profession General management and experience managing and working in a team Experience of working with low and middle income countries Experience working in a charity and of charity governance
Term and Appointment
Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, with an option to serve two further three-year terms by agreement of the Board of Trustees.
A Trustee shall automatically be admitted as a Member of the Charity on being appointed as a Trustee and cease Membership on ceasing to be a Trustee.
Trustees attend four Board meetings annually. The Finance and Audit Committee meet three times a year, to include a Risk Management meeting. Meetings are usually held in our offices in Camberwell, South London.
Trustees may be required to attend other meetings i.e. strategy planning meetings, committee meetings and fundraising events. Dates for all meetings are set well in advance to enable Trustees to schedule their attendance.
Our Trustees kindly volunteer their time and are not remunerated, though expenses incurred are reimbursable.
