How do school governors make a difference?
School governors act collectively as a member of a governing board alongside the senior leadership teams of schools to ensure:
Pupils have the best possible education Pupils and staff have a safe environment The wellbeing of staff and pupils Resources are well spent
What will be involved?
You will need to be able to make the time commitment to attend governing board and committee meetings which are currently held online. These are usually held outside of normal working hours, this can vary depending on the individual school. School governing boards can take place on average twice a term and can last approximately two hours.
You may also be asked to be a member of a committee to look more closely at areas such as the school budget, staffing or the curriculum. Committee meetings can take place on average once a term.
There will also be opportunities to visit the school remotely or in person depending on the circumstances to carry out learning walks or monitor if a particular area of school life is working well.
