Job Details

PDA Society is a small charity that has an impact much larger than our balance sheet would suggest is possible and we are currently looking to recruit a treasurer to our board. We moved to having a paid staff team less than two years ago, which is a huge change in our financial obligations. The first 4 years of paying employees is a hugely challenging time for a new charity – but it is also exciting as it allows us to focus on exactly the charity we want to be as we grow.

Our board of trustees are jointly responsible for ensuring that it is possible to maintain and grow our impact, and alongside governance responsibilities currently that means:

-Ensuring we are focusing our energy & resources where they will have the greatest impact for PDA people and those that care about them.

-Having a realistic plan to bring in income to cover our costs in the short term.

- Modelling what a sustainable organisation looks like in the medium to long term and how that will be resourced.

- Being actively involved in advocating for better understanding of and support for PDA people, and offering guidance and support to the staff team in doing so.

Trustees are volunteers who take a governance and strategic leadership role in the charity. Trusteeships are unpaid, and like other voluntary roles it is possible to claim back pre agreed reasonable expenses you incur in undertaking the role. PDA Society understands the positive contribution a board of trustees from differing backgrounds and experiences bring to an organisation. We want trustees who care about PDA people, understand, and commit to PDA Society’s role in supporting them and are able to work with a small and effective staff team to deliver our objectives.

Company

The PDA Society is the only specialist PDA charity in the UK. We are a small team, and all of us have a personal connection with PDA.

Our goal is to try and make life better for PDA people and their families – we believe that happy, autonomous lives are possible. Our strong commitment to research underpins every step we take towards improving understanding, support and outcomes for PDA people in the future.

We do this by:

  • Raising awareness of PDA and providing high quality, trustworthy information.
  • Providing training to parents and professionals to help them understand how to support PDA people, and to build safe, supportive connections.
  • Offering tailored support to PDA people and their families through our enquiry line service, which is entirely staffed by PDA people or their carers.
  • Consulting with and mobilising our community to influence positive change for PDA people.
