As a result of retirements from the Kennel Club’s Risk Assurance Committee we are seeking to appoint two new members to the Committee to support this important and interesting governance function. 


The Committee is part of our robust governance structure and is accountable to the Kennel Club Board. Its aim is to ensure that an effective risk management framework is in place and that the Kennel Club is meeting legislative and regulatory requirements.


We attach the role Specification for your information, which should be noted is voluntary. The Committee meets four times a year for a duration of two hours either at Clarges Street or using TEAMS. With time needed to review papers ahead of meetings we estimate this would take up approximately four half days a year. Expenses incurred whilst fulfilling the role such as travel costs to Clarges Street will be reimbursed.


Suitable candidates should be able to demonstrate experience of risk management, excellent communication and decision-making skills and solid financial literacy.






Kennel Club Risk Assurance Committee Member Role Specification


The KC Risk Assurance committee meets around 4 times a year.
The primary purposes of the Committee are to:


Monitor KC’s general risk and satisfy itself that adequate risk management mechanisms are in place Monitor significant changes in legislative and regulatory requirements and satisfy itself of compliance by the KC with these and with current best practices for governance, compliance, and business risk Investigate, discuss, or review any other matters if required to do so by the Board. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their strengths and weaknesses out of the following:


Practical risk management awareness. Experience of: Quickly determining key risk areas Distinguishing between material and non-material risk Distinguishing between legal, reputational, and commercial risk Creation of practical risk management processes Creation and monitoring of risk registers Non-financial management systems Application of standards such as ISO 9000, Investors in People, etc. Experience of complaints management Experience of systematic approaches to regulatory and legislative compliance Associated internal audit processes and resolution of non-compliance findings Excellent communication skills. Experience of: Communicating complex and potentially sensitive risk issues in a succinct and simple manner to the board  Working cohesively within a similar type of committee or board Excellent decision-making skills. Experience of: Conducting or reviewing independent investigations Making practical recommendations to solve risk related issues Financial literacy. Experience of: Applying UK GAAP and FRS 102 for Medium sized businesses Reading and interpreting financial reports including but not restricted to annual statutory statements, monthly management accounts and budgets Identifying the key business drivers and metrics to be planned and measured against Candidates are likely to have:


Broad based practical experience working in a senior Financial, Business or Risk Management role for 10 + years post qualification experience Operated at board level or reported directly to a board A recognised financial or business qualification preferably including knowledge of financial or non-financial audit Knowledge or experience of the Kennel Club or canine sporting activities would be desirable but is not essential.


Candidates will be required to provide a detailed CV and 2 recent references to help demonstrate the attributes and experiences above.


The role is voluntary, and members can claim reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred when fulfilling their role on the committee.
