Trustee vacancies in The Almshouse Movement

Our mission is to see Almshouses are recognised as an exemplar form of community housing.

There are very few institutions that have lasted beyond a century, Almshouses have been part of our heritage for over a thousand years. They are not just an important part of our social history. Today almshouses are thriving, new almshouses are being built in towns and villages across the country and you could be part of this great legacy.

The almshouse model is now being recognised for its unique impact on residents’ lives, offering residents a form of community living, free from isolation and with the spirit of caring and companionship at its heart. A recent study showed that living in an almshouse helps residents live up to two and a half years longer than other forms of housing. Residents live independently but as part of a community.

As a trustee you would be part of a community of 1,600 almshouse charities and 8,000 committed trustees.

Role of a trustee

Being a trustee of an almshouse charity, you would be joining a group of committed and caring volunteers who have an interest in improving the lives of others through helping run one of our 1,600 member charities.

The Almshouse Association is an umbrella body and supports over 8,000 trustees throughout the country. We provide guidance, policies, training, and a helpline.

Our members are seeking trustees who care about making a difference and have the following skills and backgrounds.
