Job Details

The Walk21 Foundation is a UK charity that works internationally. Our vision is a world where everyone can walk in a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.

We are seeking a UK-based trustee to join the board and act as honorary treasurer. This is a voluntary position to work alongside a friendly and passionate group of international trustees to provide governance and strategic direction for the charity.

The board meets 3 or 4 times a year online, with some additional work conducted via email – so you can be based anywhere in the UK. The role requires 5-7 hours of your time per quarter.

You will work with the charity’s Chief Executive to provide easy-to-understand financial information to the other trustees.

You should have a good working knowledge and experience of financial management. You do not need to be knowledgeable about the charity’s mission.

The Foundation is based in the UK, with a registered office in Cheltenham, but we work across the world. Our trustees are international and our meetings usually take place online.

The Foundation is financially sustainable and employs Godfrey Wilson Ltd as independent examiners. You can read the latest set of accounts are available on the Charity Commission website.

We are looking for a treasurer with a good working knowledge and experience of financial management who can work with the charity’s management to ensure that the board receives accurate and understandable financial information. This is to inform decision making and ensure that the charity complies with UK charitable accounting standards – for example the annual accounts that are submitted to the Charity Commission.

In particular, you will assist as follows:

  • Have oversight of the financial management of the organisation, helping to ensure we act within our constitution and comply with UK financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure that effective financial procedures are in place.
  • Advise on financial strategy and risk management.
  • Present financial information to the board.  It is a voluntary position, but any expenses incurred can be reimbursed. The role is likely to require 5-7 hours of your time per quarter, working closely with the foundation’s CEO to prepare the documentation for the board meetings.

You do not need to be knowledgeable about the charity’s mission, but it would be great if you shared our passion for walking.

You would receive a full induction to the charity and the role, which will require some additional time initially. This could be done online or in-person.
