Carmel College Governing Body Opportunities

Do you have some time to spare and want to be inspired by the positive impact of education?

Who are we?

Carmel College is a high-performing Catholic Sixth Form College in St Helens, Merseyside well known for its delivery of quality education to over 2,000 students.  The College offers a range of high quality A Level, BTEC, T Level and Foundation Learning courses as well as a number of foundation year degree programmes in association with higher education institutions.

About the role

We are looking for committed volunteers to join our Governing Body and help shape the strategic direction of the College, ensuring its educational provision remains appropriate to the needs of its students and wider community.

There are currently three governor vacancies:

  • 1 Co-opted Governor
  • 2 Foundation Governors who are appointed by the Archdiocese of Liverpool and are expected to be practising Catholics

These voluntary roles offer excellent opportunities for personal and professional development.  Governors receive a full induction programme, tailored to your specific needs, and access to ongoing training and development opportunities.  In return, you would be expected to attend four full Governing Body meetings throughout the year, three or four committee meetings, and the annual strategic planning session. There would also be opportunities for you to get involved in College life by attending events such as our Culture Day and celebration services.

Who we are looking for

The Governing Body welcomes applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds – people who can contribute their professional and specialist skills as well as their lived experience.  We are keen to recruit a diverse board with a mix of skills and perspectives to ensure effective governance, supportive challenge, sound decision-making and membership that reflects the wider College community.

We are currently seeking applications in particular from individuals with a professional background in finance, accountancy and/or audit, HR and legal.

How to apply

If you are interested in applying, in the first instance please email the Clerk to Governors at to register your interest and request further details of the application process.

Please note these roles are subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
