The Opportunity

The Heworth Moor House Trust is looking for Trustees to join its board and play a practical and active role in trying to help families in need in North and East Yorkshire.

We are looking for caring, committed individuals who want to make a positive difference in their community and are prepared to volunteer a few hours of their time each month.

We are a small York-based independent charity that provides grants to purchase household goods to parents / guardians of children who live in the city of York, the eastern part of North Yorkshire and most of the East Riding of Yorkshire.. Further information can be found on the Charity Commission website and/or our website:

Our core purpose is to offer help for children by providing practical support to their families.

We want to a make a positive and practical contribution to their wellbeing by providing the means to purchase cookers, washing machines, carpets, beds and suchlike.

From a substantial professionally managed permanent endowment fund, we can award around £24,000 worth of grants per year. The Trustees share the responsibility for awarding the grants (approximately £250 each) after individual assessment of each application that is received.

Any previous knowledge or experience within social welfare, the charities sector, finance or IT would be an asset but we would actively encourage anyone to apply who feels they can bring something of value to the role.

Trustees are volunteers with a five-year term of office and the annual commitment entails:
