Job Details

This is an incredibly exciting time to join the Kent & Medway Business Fund (KMBF) Investment Advisory Board (IAB) or one of its Sub-Groups as a voluntary Board Member to support Kent County Council’s (KCC) ambitions to achieve strong economic growth within Kent & Medway.

The Investment Advisory Board and its Sub-Groups provides oversight and reviews funding applications from local businesses to the KMBF.  All loan applications are subject to independent due diligence before presentation to a Board or Sub-Group and that Board or Sub-Group makes a recommendation to Kent County Council to approve, reject, part-fund or defer a funding application to include what conditions should be set if funding is recommended for approval.

The Investment Advisory Board is looking for people who live and work in Kent & Medway and can bring their local knowledge and business experience along with them. As a public and private led board, the board is keen to see applications from those with financial knowledge or significant experience growing and running a business reflective of the sector base within Kent & Medway to support Kent County Council’s achievement of   Framing Kent's Future - Our Council Strategy 2022-2026 and Kent & Medway Economic Framework ( and the Kent and Medway Economic Framework

The Investment Advisory Board and its Sub-Groups aim to reflect the business community that they serve, and particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups. 

The Investment Advisory Board is looking for the following personal qualities within a Board Member:

  • a strong personal commitment to the growth of Kent as a business destination. a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a board member. political awareness and an understanding of the economic, social, and political dynamics of the region. strategic vision and good, independent, judgement. be willing and confident to challenge and engage others in debate. honesty and integrity. an understanding of the importance of and a commitment to equality and diversity. respect for confidentiality.

Board members shall be elected for a period of up to four years and are eligible for re-election at the end of their term of office.
