To contribute actively to the work of the Board, giving firm strategic direction to SSET, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets, evaluating performance against agreed targets, providing challenge and support.
To join and contribute actively and reliably to at least one committee and/or workgroup to promote and progress the aims and objectives of the SSET.
To appoint and support the Principal and monitor his/her performance via the Chair of Trustees and the Principal’s Performance Management Review Group. All Trustees are expected to ensure they know the School and College well.
To safeguard the good name and values of SSET.
To ensure the financial stability of SSET.
To protect and manage the property and other assets of SSET and to ensure proper investment of any SSET funds.
In addition to the above expectations, each Trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience in which the Trustee has special expertise, to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions, by, for example: Raising issues and leading discussions Identifying key issues through background monitoring and visits Providing updates, advice and guidance on new initiatives in own skill area Evaluating reports thoughtfully and tabling questions
